Check engine light Sign In

My Maintenance Required light comes on when I start up my 2005 Civic. I had my oil changed a couple of months ago. Is it possible that they forgot to do something to "tell" the on board computer that the oil has been changed? Could it be something that simple?

Re: Check engine light Sign In

I doubt the oil change if ordinary CEL light or symbol. There's a code stored so go get the codes as to what it sees,

My mistake. I meant to say the "Maintenance Required" light comes on.

very well could be the oil reset wasn't done. Check with the local parts store as most will scan codes for free. If no codes present just swing into the place that did the service and ask them to reset it.

Re: Check engine light Sign In

It's just an oil change reminder that they forgot to reset when they changed the oil.

It's easy to just reset yourself.

  1. Turn off the engine.
  2. Press and hold the Select/Reset button in the instrument panel, then turn the ignition switch ON (Position II).
  3. Hold the button for at least 10 seconds, until the indicator resets.
