I'd love to know where he read that replacing an oil pressure switch will cure a "start and stall" condition. That's a new one on me.
Does it have any security lights on or flashing when this happens. Test your fuel pressure using an accurate gauge and post the results here.

Is this a 3.0 DOHC or 3.0 OHV?

Push down on the accelerator 1/4 way while starting the engine. If you can keep the engine running by feathering the gas pedal, you should check out the idle air control system.

Hammertime, thank you for the quick reply! he read that the engine has a sensor swtch that kill the engine as a safety caution if it senses that the engine is not getting oil. When he went to the ford dealer to order the part the service manager verified that this could indeed be the pproblem. As far as the fuel pressure info, he left to go out of town this afternoon so I don't know the info..I,m a woman who doesnt work on cars. I'll have to get that info Sun night. Thank you again!

Thank you for the reply to my problem! I just went out and tried the gas pedal 5 times and it did not work. The engine is a 3.0 ohv. Just turns over and stalls!

No, I'm afraid not. There is nothing in that car that shuts the engine down if the oil pressure gets low. You can unplug the oil sender with the car running and nothing will happen.
You need to test the fuel pressure as suggested.

Does my car have 2 fuel pumps? 1 in The tank and also 1 high pressure inline pump? just talked to my son who asked me to ask you.. he has no internet out in the sticks . Asked him where he thought the oil pressure switch could be the problem he said the oil pressure switch "talks to the powertrain control module and the pcm would shut it down . he said ,just now, that the "low oil pressure "was lit up in the cluster and now no longer is . He got the info from the service manager. Not trying AT ALL to disagree with you I appreciate your time in trying to help . Just that is where he got his info Thank you again..Laurelai

Re: Engine turns over but instantly stalls Sign In

No, it does not have 2 fuel pumps. It has a computer controlled, variable pressure system that requires a professional scan tool to diagnose it.

Also, for the record. There are no vehicles that shut down for lack of oil pressure. It would create an unsafe situation for an engine to shut down unexpectedly, therefore it is not done, contrary to what many believe.
