Exhaust Manifold heating up Sign In

1999 Ford contour 2.0 4 cylinder 150,000 runs fair at highway speed has a rough Idle and exhaust manifold heats up fire red don't have a clue any help would be greatly appreciated.

exhaust manifolds do get super hot not sure what you mean???? does it glow red when hot????

Guess:

This is likely over-fueling and combustion isn't finished in the cylinders. Causes include excessive fuel delivery for assorted reasons and timing wrong including valve timing. You may need some help to diagnose this out and I wouldn't wait as it will kill the converters if neglected. Timing belt or chains at the miles need be known correct and on the mark,

If the exhaust manifold glows red it could be a cloged converter. Usually It will lose power on hills. If not then an oxygen sensor will also cause it to get extremely hot.
