Fiesta mk3 1993 not starting

Hi! I have a mk3 Fiesta 1993 with 78,600 miles on the clock. It had a new battery 2 days ago and they also tested the alternator while it was there (which came back fine). I have had the car about a week and mot expires Feb 2011. Before the new battery, it kept cutting out (mainly at night when I had to use lights). Today, I have driven to work and back (about 10mins there and back) and left the car outside for a couple of hours. Now it won't start. Also, before and since the new battery I have had a weird noise coming from the speakers (like a bm bm bm bm bm noise). When I turn the key and remove the hand brake the only warning light that comes on is oil, could this cause what I have just described? Thanks! Any advise and help muchly appreciated!

Hmmm? Are you sure noise is coming from speakers? When it doesn't start does it crank at all or nothing? Just the oil light might be normal for this model - dunno. Know that new battery must have good connections, at the battery of course and frequently neglected are the other ends, positive all the way to the starter and negative should go to ground of engine block. The power available is only as good as the weakest link so all must be known good if it takes removing them, wire brush them clean and a smear of grease then that might be the long term solution, T

Hi, ok I will try cleaning the spark plugs (I think this is what you mean?). Also, have solved the oil problem, thanks. When I try and turn the engine on it I can hear a cranking noise when as it tries to start and then it goes dead. :S Thanks for the reply! Also, the past couple of days when I have tried starting the car, I have had to hold the key in place for 5-10 secs before it starts up. Don't know if this is relevant!

If the engine isn't cranking the spark plugs are not the first issue. If cranking and not starting then see if they are wet and check for spark. Again - if engine isn't turning/cranking there's no point in looking for other issues till that is solved, T
