GMC Vandura 2500 break-trouble Sign In

Year of vehicle 1984
Make of vehicle GMC
Model of vehicle Vandura
Engine size 8.0
130 000 miles

So i bought this used Vandura 2500. I noticed after a while that it was leaking brake fluid from under the hood. Looked it up and realized i had to refill once in a while. The other day i had to move it due to street sweepers. I was just gonna move it to the other side of the street but ended up driving a bit further because there was no space. At this time I could really feel that the breaks weren't doing their job. I had to push the pedal all the way down for the car to stop. I figured that it wouldn't hur that much since I was only driving a little bit.

Before I drove it the next time I filled it up with all new brake fluid and pushed the pedal til I could feel that the fluid was working. At the time the break light was on and since the same thing has happened before I thought "if i drive the car a while and use the break it will go back to normal", but it hasn't gone back to normal. Now I have to push the break pedal all the way to the floor for it to actually do some good. My fear is that i have worn out the break pads and have to change them but I dont know. Please help me...

Olle

You have a serious problem there. Brake fluid loss is nothing to ignore and you need to find that leak and repair it. The problem your seeing now is due to it running out of fluid and sucking air into the system. It would have to be bled to get the pedal back but I don't recommend just doing that. The problem needs to be permanently fixed.

It should have gone directly to the mechanic the first time you added fluid to it. Get it there before you lose your brakes and kill somebody.
