GRINDING when Turning and Driving Fast?!

My car is a 2001 Dodge Stratus. A couple months ago I noticed while I'm driving I hear a grinding, metal on metal type noise coming from the left front wheel region. This ONLY occurs when I'm turning left, even just a little, and it's more noticable at higher speeds. Also around this time I noticed small puddles of dark pink, maybe red, fluid, near the very front of the car (I don't know if this has anything to do with the grinding but I thought I would mention it). A friend of mine says it sounds very bad and might be bad ball bearings and/or CV joint. Also she says it sounds like a "hollow/howling" noise, but I don't hear that. What is likely the cause of this?! Please, I don't feel safe driving my car like this!!!

Right now you need to get this looked at. Your noise sounds like it could be a bad wheel bearing, which is bad news. The red fluid is transmission fluid. Have you check your transmission dipstick? Before you drive this any further get it to the nearest reputable repair shop and have it put on a hoist and inspected. If you feel the estimate is too much money then call a few other shops and tell them what repairs are needed. Make sure these aren't shadetree places, but reputable shops. Your friend's brother in law or whoever else might fix it for less but if there are problems down the road don't expect a warranty on the repair. You are right to not trust this car. It needs to be inspected by a well trained eye to keep it safe.

Thanks for this info, if anyone has any advise please feel free to post. *UPDATE* My car has still been grinding on turns. But I can't afford to fix it yet so i been riding her extra easy. Its still grinding on turns, so I jacked it up the other day to inspect the wheel bearing, and GUESS WHAT? the tire has about a 1/4 inch of play when I wiggle it. AND taking the tire off and twisting the hub the bearing sounds very scratchy and hallow. BUT NOW whenever I turn at low speeds I hear an added TICKING and POPPING sounds. Thanks for any advise or input!

I hate to sound like a dick, but what I have to say needs to be said and I will be blunt. I don't care one bit if you can afford to fix it. You are taking into your hands the lives of everyone who shares the roads with you when you choose to drive this car fully well knowing it is ready to lose a wheel at any time. I'm glad I'm nowhere near anyplace you drive. Park this car until it is fixed if you have any decency toward other people in this world! Fix your bearing and then drive it! Its not hard to change a wheel bearing. Keep driving this and the cost of a repair will seem rather small compared to a funeral that was caused by you. Do you want that on your conscience? QUIT DRIVING THIS F@#$%ING CAR! If you can't make it safe it shouldn't be on the road. No exceptions.

Ditto - stop driving this car now! 1/4" of play is horrible in a sealed bearing and I don't want to get hit by procrastinating on your part. Waiting has probably made this lots more expensive to fix and when the wheel falls off with catastrophic consequences. Probably is a wheel bearing and now brakes, T

If this is now popping then it's gonna be resolved one way or another... You really need to be getting plan B set cuz this ride is going to be done very soon. No need to echo what Tom & Nick have already said but they are right.........I just hope you don't wind up hurting someone
