Heater Core replacement

Has anyone ever heard of a temporary device for a heater core that needs to be replaced--it seems that all it would take is to put a heater core and fan into a small box and hook it up to the existing ducting system and cooling system within the engine compartment--this could be a fast temporary solution for someone that cannot get there car to a shop and still needs to operate the vehicle with heat

No, you fix the problem with the correct fitting parts. If you really want a duct tape route try a generator bolted to a trunk lid or roof and use a blow dryer for heat You can't fake that stuff with anything anywhere near the last 50 years that I know of, T

It sounds as if something like this would be easy to design and there is no doubt all kinds of people would buy one especially when faced with the alternative of tearing half the inside of the vehcile apart to get at it or paying close to a thousand dollars to have it replaced-Luckily I have not had to replace one like that yet- I have heard lots of people on u-tube make comments after watching these types of repairs that they cannot believe they could design a vehicle making changing a heater core so difficult

You have no idea some of the things we have to do. I change and evaporator in a Lexus RX300 today. I had to strip everything right down to the firewall, piece by piece. The dash doesn't come out in one piece and there were over 100 electrical connections. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Jokes aside the heater core is inside the duct system now. If you could just rig another in there (you can't) then it would be more hassle than just replacing the bad one. There really are or were some you could change out underhood with two screws, two hose clamps and lift out and have new one back in, in no time. Took longer to make sure cooling system was full again than replacing the whole core! If this one just doesn't blow heat and isn't leaking you can probably flush it out both ways. They really do make 12V cig lighter heaters but don't waste the bucks - they have no real BTU to do crap. You are right - many vehicles it's like doing an autopsy to do a heater core. With some age things break, foam insulation is dust, fasteners underhood and inside - they suk......... T
