Honda Won't Start... Died While Driving

Car: 1995 Honda Del Sol Vtec 1,6L SOHC 5spd. Issue: While driving briefly two days ago, my honda cut off as if I had stalled out, or no gas. I pulled over and tried to start it up, but nothing happpened (except a phone call to the towing comp.) The car cranks, but does not turn over and start. What I have done: I tested the Fuel Filter for pressure, by loosening the bolt on top, turned the car to "On" but did not start the car, and I saw fuel flow out of the bolt, it did not spray though. - I assume it has pressure since I saw gasoline flow out for about 2 seconds, even though it did not spray out. I even changed the cars fuses too. Can anyone tell me what they think the issue may be? PLEASE!!! I am tight on money, so bringing to a mechanic and getting charged 3X for labor alone is not an option. Thank you!!!

All "crank, no start" conditions are approached in the same way. Every engine requires certain functions to be able to run. Some of these functions rely on specific components to work and some components are part of more than one function so it is important to see the whole picture to be able to conclude anything about what may have failed. Also, these functions can ONLY be tested during the failure. Any other time and they will simply test good because the problem isn't present at the moment. If you approach this in any other way, you are merely guessing and that only serves to replace unnecessary parts and wastes money. Every engine requires spark, fuel and compression to run. That's what we have to look for. These are the basics that need to be tested and will give us the info required to isolate a cause. 1) Test for spark at the plug end of the wire using a spark tester. If none found, check for power supply on the + terminal of the coil with the key on. 2) Test for injector pulse using a small bulb called a noid light. If none found, check for power supply at one side of the injector with the key on. 3) Use a fuel pressure gauge to test for correct fuel pressure, also noticing if the pressure holds when key is shut off. 4) If all of these things check good, then you would need to do a complete compression test. 1. Easier than that is to pull the distributor cap off and crank the engine to see if the rotor turns. 2. Or, if you wanna get risky, take the oil cap off and have someone crank it while you stick your finger down on a cam lobe and see if a lobe takes the end of your finger off as it smashes it between a lifter bucket...LOL (hint: don't try #2) Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

True, but it will tell you if it broke. Haven't really seen a Honda belt jump on its own, but I wouldn't be surprised if one pops in tomorrow at work. If the rotor turns, then maybe a compression check would be a good idea to rule out some funky belt skip. Then you can check for spark. Which wasn't uncommon for a coil or a position sensor in the distributor to give up. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I would wonder when the last time the belt was even serviced. But if a piece of the rubber lip around the plastic fell in there it could jump a few teeth. Saw it on a Camry once 1000 miles after a new belt. Had to be pull started to run, no power at all and tons of codes. Checked time and was 2 teeth off at cam. Piece of the rubber laying inside the housing. Reset time and purred like a kitten.

then try DS's suggestion and see if the rotor turns. If not at all you know its a timing belt broken, if it does we have further to go to get a diagnosis.

Ok, so the rotor turns. I just pulled the relay out and took a look at the beads on the back of it, none of them seem to be cracked (a little brown on some). I also listened to the gas tank for the buzzing of the fuel pump to see if it turns on and it does. Could the fuel pump turn on, but not supply the injectors with enough fuel? Perhaps my injectors are clogged? Thanks all for your responses!

Reread Hammer Time's first post. You hear the pump make noise but the car won't work. My ex wife was good for making a racker and I never saw much work from her either. You need to test the fuel pressure to see if you are getting the proper amount to your injectors. You need to check injector pulse to see if the injectors are getting a signal from the ECM to deliver the pressurized fuel. And you need to check for spark of the proper strength to ensure the fuel it receives is ignited. If all of those systems check out in spec, we then move on to see if you have enough compression to run the engine or if it is blown. Follow these steps in order. This is the same system we use and exactly what we would do if your car was towed to us at our workplace.
