Horn Doesn't Work

I have a 2008 Hyundai Sonata GLS 2.4l 4cyl. with almost 80,000 miles on it. The horn stopped working from the steering wheel. It still sounds when I lock the car with my key fob, so I know the horn itself is functioning, but what would cause the horn to stop working from the steering wheel itself? How would I go about fixing it. I usually don't mind fixing things on my vehicle, but with the air bag system, I don't want to touch it, unless I can be sure I'm not going to deploy it. Thanks!

I guess your car isn't feeling horny. You do know the horn activates with your remote, so that means the relay and horn are getting power and are working. That leaves three things: (1) The horn switch, (2) clock spring, and (3) the wiring between the clock spring and splice where the BCM (body control module) ties in. If the air bag light is on, that could mean there is a problem with the clock spring and that would explain why the horn doesn't operate with the horn switch. You would have to make some electrical checks underneath the air bag module. If you don't feel comfortable working with the air bag system, dread the thought of your head being ripped of your body and catapulted out the back glass if the air bag inflater is accidently activated, or don't have the service information and knowledge to safely handle and disable the air bag system, your best bet is to get it into a repair shop. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Thanks for the suggestions. The airbag light is not on, if this helps any. Also, one thing I noticed, is that when I change the station on the radio from the steering wheel controls, sometimes, instead of changing the station, it actually will change the source. I.e. it will go from FM1 to FM2, or AM to XM. And other times when using the steering wheel controls, it will mute the radio instead of changing the station. Could these be related to the horn?

It is possible those things could be related since the circuits run though the clock spring. Checks would still have to be made to confirm that once the air bag inflater is removed. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
