Once a week would be best, Once a month at the most. Disconnecting the battery all together would be even better. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Or purchase a "float charger" to maintain the proper charge continuously. I use one on my marine battery every winter. Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds

If you google batteries, particularly lead/acid, you will find more info than you ever wanted to know from several manufacturers. There is a guy who has put together a primer on batteries - 11 pages - which will tell you everything you ever wanted to know. Lead acid batteries don't like to self-discharge, and they do that on the shelf not connected to anything, dropping down to nothing, and bringing them back to life is an ordeal if not impossible. Get a cheap float charger, or put it on a regular charger every week or so.
