Installed Alternator, How things have changed

Greetings, I just installed and Alternator in Chevy Astro. Not a big problem because we have all the tools. But: What a difference! I have our family car from when I was a kid 1930 Ford. Mom's car: 1966 Riviera. The first motor I rebuilt was the model A, my father showed taught me on that motor. You could see everything you needed to fix or replace, no need to remove 5 or 6 other things or reach in to remove a bolt or nut by feel. I worked as a mechanic for years and seen many improvements but a lot of the add on, screw on. light up, snap down, plastic snap off, pattern failure is a bunch of crap!

Hi, You are right things have changed and thats the nature of the beast. for the better or worse..... wow 1930 ford got to love that! Would love to have that Model A *******ASE Master Automotive Technician, L-1, L-2 and a lot of wallpaper too :-)******

Wouldn't be caught dead driving a model A down I-275 through Tampa though. I just read that the model A got 25-30 mpg. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Model A -- 25-30MPG? Parents had a 1931 and too young then to care. Seemed more like 25 miles till a flat tire! Drove a restored one and what a POS - sorry, I couldn't take that crap. Near had to push it up a substantial hill. I love old stuff but wouldn't have one of those - too much work just to drive them. Adjust timing with a stick on the wheel while you drive - not for me, T PS: Anyone recall Mr. Magoo?

Maybe it should be mpt (miles per tire) instead of mpg. 40 horsepower and a top speed of 65 mph. The evolution of the car is amazing. You think changing an alternator is hard on an old astro van...hahaha Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I love that A! You can adjust the carb from the inside the car, adjust the spark advance, that's not needed unless you start it with the crank. Tires are better now maybe, the roads sure are! We had lots of cars, when you could only get so much gas per month,during the war, we had plenty because we got stamps for each car. Not many cars had heaters but the Durant did and the Willis Saint Clair did. Don't get me wrong I like today's cars some of them. They run a long time between tune ups. But I have a few older cars and trucks that you would love. Anyway, I'm sure you see the same: Things that can't be fixed, others you can't lube, that snap off in your hand, and now that money isn't worth much, you pay over 10 times as much. OK! I'm over it. I needed to rant.
