Oil pump 2.4 eclipse 2000 Sign In

I acquired a 2000 eclipse with a broken timing belt . Heads are redone motor back together and running ,but without oil psi .could the pump have been damaged by the broken belt ? It did damage the crank sensor ,Or can the pump be mistimed ??

Not sure why, but yes the oil pump does have a timing mark.

Re: Oil pump 2.4 eclipse 2000 Sign In

I had it lined up with the mark ,and double checked. My understanding is as long as lined up ,your in time . The lower pulley had all kinds of belt debree around it and it broke both belts when it went . I just can't see why it would have fouled up the pump .this is why I'm asking if any one else might have run across the same problem

Maybe there was a lot more wrong with it than you thought when you bought it. It is also possible it could have a oil sender problem and the engine actually does have pressure. You would have to remove the sender and screw in a oil pressure gauge to find out.

Re: Oil pump 2.4 eclipse 2000 Sign In

I checked the psi through the oil sender port ,and I had zero .
The older cars would sometimes loose prime on on the pump, what's the possibility ?? Or am I just over thinking a obvious pump issue ?
Just trying to save the 200.oo plus labor

If you're getting zero pressure, something has to be completely broken, not just worn out.

Well I Allready dropped the pan to see if there was a obstruction , but it's clean ,so I guess it's spring for the pump , I,ll let you know how it turns out. Thanks again

Re: Oil pump 2.4 eclipse 2000 Sign In

Well I found the problem with the oil pump . You should not use a floor jack on the oil pan to support the motor ,when installing the timing belts. The sump pick up in the pan is really close to the bottom of the pan. It dosnt take much of a dent in the bottom to shut off all oil getting to the pump. Thanks guys for the help, feeling pretty dumb at this point , I did find it before I took it all apart and buy the new pump ,sooo all is well that ends well

If you need to do this type of work again.....use a block of wood that spans the whole length of the pan to support the engine....
