Possible Belt Issue.

Hi guys, Tonight my car started squeaking really badly where the belt area is and the brake, engine, and battery light all came on almost simultaneously. When I got home and checked under the hood, the engine coolant compartment had its cap off, and there was minor smoke coming from inside. It may be a belt issue but I'm not really sure; any expert opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It could be that the cap came off and got the belt wet but you need to investigate further. Refill the radiator with coolant and start the engine to see if the noise is still there. If so, remove the belt and see of any of the components are stiff or wobbly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Why was the cap off? Had you been checking the coolant level earlier?
