Rattling During Acceleration. Sign In

Hi! This my first post, which probably isn't a good thing considering its post about a problem. lol.

Anyway, I have 1995 Ford Crown Victoria that I've had for about a month. The problem started after I got it off the lot. When I accelerate the car jerks/sputters/vibrates however you want to say it. It happens between 20-30mph, stops then again but worse at 50-60mph then it stops. When I get to the 50-60mph the car vibrates and sputter really bad. If you've ever driven on the highway and run over the white line on the side that has those grooves, that's what my car feels and sounds like. It sort of doesn't happen if I press down hard on the accelerator. The car isn't accelerating like it used to.

I took it to a place that ran a diagnostic device on the car but no codes came up. I'm a poor college student that is taking an automotive class with an ASE instructor who looks at cars for free but won't take me seriously, probably because he hates Fords. I've put in some seafoam to lube the gears and what not. It does a little better but the problem is not fixed.

I might have enough to pay for repairs but not for them to look AND repair. So I came here hoping someone might know what that is. Thanks in advance!

This isn't something that you're going to find a magic answer online. The car has to be driven, inspected and tested by a knowledgeable tech to determine what is going on.

There has to be more to it than that.

You could start off by checking fuel pressure with the problem is occurring. If pressure looks good, then maybe you have an ignition fault. Not uncommon for the spark plug wires on those to wear out or leak and cause misfires under load when the torque converter is engaged. How old are the plugs and wires? Pull the plug boots out and make sure you don't have water or coolant laying down in the spark plug wells. That would be a good start.

One thing that came to mind when i read this was Torque Converter Shudder.

But as HT and DS suggested, proper testing needs to be performed.

There is a Technical Service Bulletin

Google ' tsb 98-08-07 ' and give it a read

Thank You! I looked at it. I think that might be the problem, so I will bring it to a mechanic and have them check it out again, ugh! If it's not it then I guess I'll post again. Thank you again!
