S10 Transfer Case Sign In

I have a 2000 Chev S10 4X4 Pickup and I described a loud 4 whl drive noise in my post of Dec 30 but no one ever answered it. Since then I've been advised that it is a transfer case problem and I'm probably going to have to replace it with a rebuilt one. Does anyone have the procedure for taking out the t-case? Any tips or info on removing it would be appreciated, incl an estimate on how much work is involved. Thanks.

Really, no big deal to R & R the transfer case. You'll need a floor jack to support the weight as you lower it and put it back in, though. Mitchell calls for 3.4 hrs labor if it has a skid plate, 3.2 hrs if not. You may want to buy a repair manual to guide you through the process, but easily a one day job, even in your driveway.

Here is a site that might answer all your questions. Look to the links on the right and there is one for the transfer case. Click here.

Thanks to both Loren and Way2Old for info on removing the t-case. Doesn't sound too bad so I'll give it a go.
