Side view mirror glass broken Sign In

I have a 2008 GMC Acadia SLT with heated side view mirrors. Passenger side glass only has been broken and needs to be replaced. Is this a difficult job best left to a dealer or can a handy "do-it-your-selfer" manage it. If anyone can provide info. on how to do it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Side view mirror glass broken Sign In

i believe the mirror is sold as a housing only meaning the whole plastic piece as well not just the glass.

its going to be pricey. but the install is fairly straight forward.

remove door panel.
disconnect the electrical connectors for the heated/power mirror functions
unbolt mirror from door frame,

assembly opposite of removal

Thanks for your response. Checked with GMpartsdirect.com and I can buy the glass mirror only for $39.74 but don't know how to replace/install. If you have any knowledge of how to do it I would appreciate it...............Thanks again

Is that litterally just the glass or the glass without heater and the housing? You may be able to get just the glass stick on replacement or have an auto glass place cut and install just the glass for you if you don't want the heater, or the convex type as that may not be so easy to duplicate,

Re: Side view mirror glass broken Sign In

Most of the newer mirrors have plastic locks attached to the back of them and they pop into slots on the housing. If there is any left of the old one, see if there are any tabs on the back of the broken one. You are not out anything if it breaks.
