Toyota Van won't start consistently!

I have a 1988 Toyota Van Wagon with aprox. 200,000 miles on it. From time to time I turn the key and it will not start and it's happening more and more often. Everything works (radio, clock, ect) but it won't start at times. I can hear the starter click so there's power reaching it but it won't turn over. Starter is less than a year old so I assume it's good. If I turn the key really fast over and over it will EVENTUALLY start but sometimes that takes forever and it's flooded after! I had this problem before and I had a guy replace my negative cable and that worked for a couple months but now it's doing it again. The battery and alternator are new. The ground cable from the battery is new. I have no idea what to look at next. Please help!

Most of what your saying makes no sense at all. You can't flood a car if the starter isn't it cranking over. Your likely looking at a bad connection on one of your battery cables or a bad starter from what your describing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Well when I turn the key the starter clicks once and that's it. After turning the key quickly over and over, it will EVENTUALLY turn over but it acts like its flooded. When it starts properly, it starts on the first "crank". When I have to turn the key over and over to get it to start, it "cranks" 10-15 time before it actually starts...like a vehicle would when it's flooded. Once it starts, it's bogged down but eventually idles correctly after burning off excess gas (I assume). That's the least of my worries though. I just desperately need to find out why it won't turn over each time I turn the key. As I stated...alternator, battery, starter and ground cable are new. The starter clicks each time I turn the key but no start. I've even tried the ol' "tap the starter with a hammer" trick, which worked when my old starter was actually bad, but it doesnt work so I assume the starter is ok. No idea what to do.

Don't assume anything. There is a good likelyhood that your starter is bad. The other long cranking issue is a whole separate problem.
