2002 Chevrolet Cavalier (4 door) 117,000 No idea about engine size Okay: A couple of questions: 1. An engine light will, from time to time, flash on the dashboard. It is located in the lower right hand side. Its a box, inside of which is an arrow which points down and below that is some wavy lines. I would assume this means something is low on fluid, however all the fluid level seem normal. If not, and not assuming an electrical issue, what does this icon mean? 2. While checking the engine oil, the levels seemed okay. However, when I popped the cap to check (the dipstick goes directely in the drum), the sides of the funnel looked like somebody had dumped a pan of bacon grease into it. Since I assume that did not happen, I can only assume the oil is a little messed at this point, to some extent. Could that be the cause of the icon? If so, is anything more than adding some fresh oil needed (the overall levels are on the lower end, but within normal limits)?

You need to take the car to a shop and have a mechanic check it out. Judgeing by the limited info you were able to give there is a good chance of a blown head gasket and/or a cracked head. LIFE'S SHORT GO FISH

Learn the icons and read the owners manual. The one with wavy lines is usually engine temperature. Example below.... T
