WATER IN THE BACK FLOORBOARD Sign In

2008 Saturn Aura with approximately 50,000 miles on it. We have a problem when it rains, the passenger side rear floorboard fills with anywhere from a slight dampness to 2 inches of water depending on the down-poor. Driveway is on a hill so it is never in standing water. Top, sunroof, sides, windows and all other inside parts of vehicle remains dry Took it to Saturn and after they did many “water test” was told they could not find out where the water was coming in from and when it does it again to bring it straight in for them to look at again. Any suggestion.

jpannell; Sounds to me that the rear window may be leaking? Most auto glass shops can find the origin of the leak. This needs immediate attention. Obviously. Carpet, floorboard damage, ect. Not to mention mold. Good luck.

Does it leak on level ground? Could also be a door alignment issue especially if body work was ever done to that portion of the car.

Re: WATER IN THE BACK FLOORBOARD Sign In

It takes in water on level ground just being parked or while being driven. We bought it new and have never had any damage or repair work to it. What is really frustrating is the Saturn repair shop couldn't find where it was coming in at either. Nothing else inside gets wet just the back passenger floor board. Thanks!

Just to add: Check trunk and spare if under a cover back there. Some if done that way have a plug to let water out. Soaked spares and jack are a pill when you need them if they have been wet all this time. Just a maybe to tend to now and check after the fix if a problem there,

It's most likely a rear window that's leaking somewhere. The would have to pull the back seat out and start soaking it down with the hose to watch for the leak from the inside.

For this test a pressure washer set on high is gonna work a lot better than a garden hose. If necessary borrow one. You get in the car. Now have a second person hit the door and window with the washer while you’re inside the car watchin to see where the water is leakin in fromWink.

Have you checked the drain in the bottom of the door? The door can fill and the water run over into the floorboard.
