ok i'm gonna try this again my 1997 olds bravada starts but the shifter won't move out of park , i've already checked the brake light's and the fuses , we got it home by taking the linkage off and putting into drive like that , when you push the shifter button you can hear a clicking from under the dash any suggestion's beside's it being a shop job , i'm a girl but give me some credit

Ok: Read your other posts also. If you can get at the part that's clicking you might see what's wrong there. There is a mechanical action to allow it to shift out of park only with brake applied as you know. Getting at that might not be so easy - take a look.

I don't know first hand what linkage or style of release is used and would have to look myself. The more common failure with stuff like that is the brake light switch but you said that works,

Is this a floor shift? If it is, here is a picture for location of the shift interlock solenoid. This will keep it from shifting from park.
