Morning all, Driving home last night I noticed my dash lights were very dim, then here comes the red battery light going on, then the ABS light gong on then finally the Check charging system light came, I was a while from home and praying I would make it home, so I kept driving, finally all lights were of including the headlights and then the car began to hesitate driving. after about 10 minutes everthing went back to normal, lights all came on and ran fine?? I did a self check where you press the button in the car and it says charging system ok? I just had it repaired yesterday by a ford dealership because of dying out at stop lights and stop signs. they re-programmed the idle, fuel filter, cleaned the fuel lines. Please help, finally paid the car off and would like t keep it a while, its a 05 ford taurus with 143, 000 on it. I hava a brand new battery less than a month old and a brand new starter less than a month old, please let me know what you all think

The charging system has to be tested while the problem is present. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Yes, that is true. You can't fix what isn't broken and if your problem is intermittent, then everything will test good if the problem is not present. The tech can make guesses and assumptions but that's all they will be. Nothing can be confirmed unless the problem is present when testing.

Hammer time I appreciate ya. drove the car this morning with no issues, like I said new batt and new starter, could be the altenator correct? what do you reccommend I do, have the drive the car but dont feel safe, should I even bother taking it in if its acting fine, dont want to be stranded and lastly its not a major fix is it

There is never a good way to resolve an intermittent issue without simply guessing. You could try throwing an alternator at it but that could end up being a waste of money too. The bottom line is the problem can only be properly diagnosed if it is present during testing.
