clonking noise at boot end Sign In

Vauxhaull Zafira 1999 1.8 manual I have a strange clonking noise from the boot end when pulling away in first and second gear then it stops until the car stops and pulls away again. Nothing is loose in the boot i.e car jack or spare wheel, it seems to be more from the passenger side but can`t find what it is
It sounds like something rolling backwards then forwards

It might be the exhaust system either loose from a hanger or that motor mounts allow too much engine movement. While cool - try shaking the tail pipe and see if you can reproduce a noise for now,

Its not the exhaust. I forgot to add that it sounds like something rolling backwards then forwards plus it don`t make any noise when you go over bumps Thanks for your reply Helen

They don't sell those where I live so I found a pic to show what these look like.

If like a foward and back clunk like a cannon ball is back there it could be a strut for rear axle with a bad bushing. That would be more pronounced if this was rear drive but by shape it front drive. I'd inspect the suspention items for the rear axle,

T
