fuel guage Sign In

not sure where or even if anyone can help me but i have an 1985 dodge ram that for one reason or another has had the fuel guage remove none of the salvage yards around where i live have anything that old and havent found anyplace on line where i could get one. i was hopeing someone could help me locate or point me in the right direction on where to find one. would prefer to have an orignal guage rather then installing an aftermarket gauge.

i do understand this forum isnt for parts maybe you know of one that is for parts??

Re: fuel guage Sign In

try dormanproducts.com as they do make a great deal of odd things that nobody stocks. But for the age of the truck your best bet may be aftermarket. I'd call Summit Racing at (800)230-3030 to get the info. You'd be surprised at how cheap going aftermarket can be and still look right. Bought plenty from them over the years and not one complaint. For a search for used parts try car-part.com. It links together salvage yards nationwide and you can see if anyone has one of those trucks by chance

Re: fuel guage Sign In

the only draw back on going aftermarket is i would have to put in a gauge pod or use one of those cheap brackets if i do go aftermarket i would want to redo the entire instrument panel and have all matching gauges and speedo.

the truck was used by modot and apparently they dont need fuel guages cause i realy dont understand the reasoning behind removing it and not replacing it..thats the only answer i got for that lol

but thanks ill try that car part.com site

Re: fuel guage Sign In

Are you trying for something to roll across Barrett-Jackson? Its a 27 year old truck and even where you are at without rust its not in high demand.I see you want it to look right, get the gauges for the truck to work right first. Projects are nice but never fully completed. Even people with $60,000 sunk in their car will tell you they still have other things to do to it. If its a resto, do a resto. If thats not within your means rig up a holder for an aftermarket gauge unless you find a stock one in your price range. Realize that we are also talking about a 27 year old sending unit so results may vary on accuracy

Re: fuel guage Sign In

no not looking to turn it into no show truck just a personal project but if unable to obtain an factory guage i want it to look as clean as possible if that makes any sense

that and the fact it belonged to my grandfather
so there that sentiment too
