headlights (low beam) wont turn off Sign In

my 92 plymouth acclaim 2.5 liter will not let me turn off the lights. This morning when i started it all was fine and because it was the day time i didnt turn on the lights . I ran my errands and parked the car when i was finished. 10 minutes later a neighbour came to tell me my lights were on. I thought this strange and went to push the plunger style light switch in but it was not out. The taillights come on when i turn the lights on as if all were normal and they turn off when i push the switch in but the headlights remain on . I am able to switch the lights to high beam and back to low beam with the stick on the steering colomn but they just wont quit when i turn them off and they remain on when i remove the key. right now i have just disconnected the negative battery terminal and of course that works. All is good with the car other than this but the only thing that i noticed is that the signals work but seem to be making a sort of ploinking sound instead of the normal clicking. As well when the light switch is turned on with the signal lights blinking the blinking will slow down. my question is whether or not the solenoid that controls the blinking is related in any way to the lights other than that they are all controlled on the steering column .

Mike, you may have a stuck headlight relay or daytime running lamp relay. I don't have a diagram handy, but, check the fuse and relay box. IF you find the relay, remove it. When I get a wiring diagram I will post it for you.

hello steve i have the haynes manual in front of me and am trying to make sense of it. It seems as if i may have jumped the gun when i said low beams it seems as if right now with no key and the lights off the head lights are pale yellow, with the key in and the lights on they are quite bright (normal/lowbeam)and with the key in lights on i am able to turn the high beams on which come on very bright (also normal/high beam) . It would seems as if the lights are stuck on in a daytime running light capacity but the problem is this car never had daytime running lights before although they do exist on canadian models i will try to find the appropriate relays and check them like you said . Another thing which is strange is that with the headlights on i can pull the fuse for the light and the light does not go out. I will start with the relay.
