I have a 2004 Ford Focus 4-door. The rubber weatherstripping has fallen off the bottom of 2 doors. I emailed Ford to see if this was important and they simply said "take it to a dealer". There is no Ford dealer in my town. So - is this stuff really necessary? Is it for noise reduction, water stoppage when driving through puddles, or what? Will my car be damaged if I do not replace it?

Of course weatherstripping is important. It seals the inside from everything outside.

Drive through a car wash. You'll find out fast. If the stuff didn't need to be there, the factory wouldn't have put it in and would've pocketed the money for themselves.
