my starter is good but clicks once Sign In

i have a 98 camaro v6. my car always started but now it will just click once. i had it tested and replaced the positive wire with a new one. i noticed the ground strap that goes to the chassis to the engine near the starter was broke. would jumpstarting the starter bypass the ground and all the switches that would be bad???

Just fix the ground strap, if it's broken, it should obviously be the problem.

well my car is sitting 30 miles away. When it died all i have was a cheap pair of pliers and some speaker wire. I couldn't get any bolts loose so i kind of wedged the wire to the chassis and engine to see if that would work for a ground but it still clicked. i need to make sure im covering all basis before i go back to fix it

You need to forget the pliers and just bring the phone number for a tow truck and capable repair shop. I doubt you're going to resolve that on the side of the road with the knowledge and tools you have.

Ok I replaced the ground strap and I get 12v at starter and my interior lights come on my batt is charged but no click when I try to start. I replaced the blown 50a fuse . Would it be a bad starter relay or the ignition relay?

The easiest way to check wouldbe to just swap a relay and try to start it.

Also do you have the 2 positive cables on the battery? If so check between them for corrosion, fixed quite a few no cranks like that on the gm cars.

ok replaced the relays nothing, my last option is the ignition relay under the steering column. Isn't there are way to bypass this with a push button starter? autozone has to order the part but i need my car now.

Ok.

Is the security light on? I looked the steps up on gm service info and for that car more so than most the trouble tree is centered around the anti theft system. Seems to be a relay for that also.

You also should try a voltage drop test on the positive cable, and check the "new" ground closely.

When you have had the starter pulled out that many times did you check the fly wheel? Maybe you're stuck on some bad teeth?

Smack the starter housing with a hammer while turning the key to start . if it starts, buy a new starter,if it dont then do what Hammer Time said.
