1993 gmc jimmy 130,000 miles 4wd this has happened only 2 times to date: I start my Jimmy and my "check gauge" light comes on and I see that I have no oil pressure. I try to rev it up to get oil pressure but nothing. I turn it off for 20 minutes or so and try again and I have good oil pressure. The first time it happened it scared me so I had it towed. The mechanic installed a new sender (sensor) cost me $265.00 including tow fee. The second time it happened was about a month later. I stopped to a store and when leaving I had no oil pressure. I waited for a little while (pissed off of course- since I just paid to have this fixed), then started up again and now I had oil pressure and have been driving without any problems. I took it back to the mechanic and he spent an hour re-checking and said he couldn't find anything wrong . He said my next step was to get a new oil pump at the tune of $650.00????? The Jimmy runs very good and there is no ticking or knocking sounds. The engine sounds good! What would cause the oil pressure to be zero temporarily?

You're really going to have to manually verify the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge when this is happening. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

if I manually test it, what could it be if I do have it, or if I don't have it
