I have a 2004 Toyota Highlander with a 6 cylinder engine. The problem I am having is when the car is driven on the freeway for any short (20 miles or so) and when we stop and return to start the car large plumes of blue smoke comes out of the tailpipe. It does not do this when doing around town driving. What could be causing this situation?

You might want to look inside the valve covers for any excessive sludge. Those Toyota's are pretty notorious for that.

Carjuncky,
The entire problem started when I had an oil change company perform a desludging procedure. It has been a problem ever since. If I find sludge inside the valve cover what do you suggest?
Thanks for getting back to me.

Yep, you're in trouble now. Never use those chemicals. Just having the sludge is a big problem, but doing that desludging makes the problem much more serious. You could lose the engine very soon if that gunk plugs up the oil pick up.
