overheat leaking coolant

I have an '01 cavalier that started to overheat the other day and at
the same time the AC stoped blowing cold air. When i got home i looked
under the car and saw that it was leaking coolant. Opened the hood and
noticed 4 hoses going into the firewall. The 2 on the right were for
the heater core, the 2 on the left were from the ac. Between those 2
there is a little elbow hose coming from inside the car into the engine
area and there was a steady leak coming from that. Somebody told me
that it was probably my heater core and since it was in the same place
as the other 2 hoses that it was leaking from that elbow, meaning that
if either one leaked it would drain from that hose. So i bypasses the
core and it's still leaking and over heating. Please someone help. Hope
it's a simple fix i can do. Thanks.r.

Was that coolant leaking from there or clear water?

just went out to check for sure and it is water, clear and no smell. overheated again as well. air still flows cold untill car gets very hot.

That has nothing to do with your problem. That is just the condensation drain.
What you need to do is pressure test the cooling system to locate any leaks and repair them. If your problem is only in stopped or slow traffic situations, make sure the cooling fan is working. It should run all the time with the A/C on.

it only starts to leak when it starts overheating and it's constant. the fan does stay on the whole time, doesn't seem to help much. Thanks though. gonna start small and replace thermostat and rad cap. Oh, and hook core back up. Not the easiest thing on this car.

No, don't go throwing parts at it. You don't fix anything that way. Do as I suggested and pressure test the system.

O.K. I did notice that the rad cap wouldn't screw off like it's supposed to, i had to pull it off.
