removing oil pan to an 02 jetta Sign In

I just bought a 2002 jetta 1.8l turbo. and i went to change the oil and noticed that the pan was stripped i am looking into getting a kit to buy that i can tap it and put a new plug in. Does anyone know if his works or do i need to put a new pan on. I don;' know much about vw jettas so do i have to remove the motor to get the pan off and put the new one on, or is it accessible from underneath the car?

Alloy pan - right?

Ask with original drain plug in hand if there's an oversized drain plug which is like a tap and makes new threads. They have slots and taper from start like a tap and that becomes the new thread and plug with a gasket. You would need a straight shot and follow what's left of existing threads precicely or it just gets worse.

They used to be readily available marked 1.25 over size and things like that AND what the OE thread was.

That is then unique to that car and can work perfectly. It would likely leave some filings inside so I'd waste a quart of new cheap oil to flush that out as best as possible OR if real sure about getting the right shot at it grease the new oversized plug which will trap the filings of making new threads.

If you try that, watch it like a hawk and have oil with you. Check often till it proves itself. It can be a permanant safe fix depending on severity,

Glad it worked and do check that it's staying good for you. I haven't seen those in a while but it's the same idea just you don't need to keep removing the part that made new threads.

Good thing as replacing an oil pan over a mandatory good drain plug is an aweful waste of energy and $$,
