truck will not go over 20mph HELP....... Sign In

My son`s truck over heated and when it cooled down and after adding fluid it would not go over 20mph.
I replaced the thermostat and added about 1/2 quart of trans fluid. But the truck would only reach 20 mph and I noticed the rpms were extremely high.
Is it the trans or some sensor. I need help

Does the eng rev up when in park ? When driving does the trans shift out of 1st gear? Does the eng still overheat? THe trans is cooled by the radiator .If the eng got very hot the trans would have also. A wrong diagnosis could cost you hundreds. You may want to have a shop at least estimate it.

The post is three weeks old. I don't think it matters.
